Breakthrough of data transfer.
The 1970's was an era of breakthrough for data transfer or ?calls' between computers. Increase in data transfer was due to the rapid development of ADP technology in the financial and administrative sectors. At the end of the decade there were already 6,000 modems in the network. A high-performance computer connection of the telecom network was regarded important, especially by the banks.
The first computer-controlled telephone exchange was completed in Pihlajanmäki in 1975, and the first computer-controlled area exchange was introduced in Korkeavuorenkatu in 1976.
Cable TV was initiated: HPY started to construct a cable TV network.
The first fibre optic connection was constructed in 1979. Fax machines arrived. At the end of the 60's, HPY began actively marketing data services. This led to a conflict with the National Board of Post and Telecommunications, which interpreted the data transmissions technology as part of telegraph activities, which it had the monopoly. The matter was negotiated and agreements were made, but an open telewar erupted in 1979. The founding of Datatie in 1985 was the shaker of monopolies. The first bank networks were born and the number of data transfer modems grew at an annual rate of 50%.
