The period of consolidation. HPY constructed an Olympic telephone network with its exchanges.
After the unusual conditions, HPY's operations stabilised to normal and the war-time regulation of the phone ended. The Helsinki Olympic Games in 1952 symbolised a turning point. It also issued a great challenge for the Finns. HPY's arrangements were a great success. The company's phone solutions acted as a model to the successive Olympic cities.
HPY constructed an Olympic exchange with its four exchanges. After the Games, the cables and exchanges were connected to the public network.
HPY's operating area expanded further. Haimoo, Jokikunta, Nummela, Otalampi and Vihti were connected to HPY's network in 1952. The present size of the network was achieved in 1956, when Pusula was connected to HPY's area and Porkkala was returned to Finland.
In 1956, the first telephone cable between Europe and America was launched. In the 1950's, Finland adopted radio link technology.
