The era of automation
After the WWI the Telephone Association shifted to use automatic telephone exchanges. The invention of automatic switches facilitated the connecting of calls without exchange operators. The whole are of Helsinki was automated in the spring of 1922, as the first city in the world.
In 1928, the phones and exchanges of Haaga township were connected to the network. The operational expansion of Helsinki Telephone Association had begun.
In 1928, the first submarine telephone cable between Finland and Sweden was lowered.
In 1929, there were 25,500 telephone subscribers in Helsinki, whose calls were transmitted via seven automatic exchanges.
