A new office building on Korkeavuorenkatu
The upswing in the economy of the 1890's and the rapid growth in the number of inhabitants of the capital increased the demand for the telephone. By the end of the decade, Helsinki Telephone Association has already 1,600 subscribers. It was time for the Association to acquire its own office building. There were 3.3 phones per inhabitants in Helsinki, which made it one of the major telephone cities in the world.
