CEO on corporate responsibility
BackStatement from the CEO and President Concerning Corporate Social Responsibility

In accordance with the internationally recognised ‘Triple Bottom Line’ principle, Elisa’s corporate responsibility can be divided into financial responsibility, environmental responsibility and social responsibility.
Elisa develops products and services that promote communications between people and organisations and learning – communication in both rural and urban areas. Elisa’s roots and heritage are in Finland, where Elisa has operated responsibly and taken the long view since 1882. Our services cover all of Finland, promoting regional equality. Elisa’s services are used by 2.5 million customers, and our services indirectly touch almost every Finn.
The well-being of our employees is very important. Elisa conducts an annual personnel survey to examine the state of well-being amongst its employees. On the basis of the results, we select development areas that are then implemented in every team. Every Elisa employee is part of a performance-based bonus scheme. The bonuses are based on the targets that steer business operations. Every employee attends a development appraisal discussion twice a year.
Elisa operates in 38 locations over a very large geographical area. We employ 3,300 people directly and thousands more indirectly. Elisa has prepared an equality plan and complies with it. We are an equal opportunity employer with women making up 40% of Elisa employees, compared to the ICT industry average of 33%.
Elisa carries out high-quality and environmentally friendly services. Our services reduce unnecessary travel, which leads to a reduction in the environmental burden caused by traffic. We focus on sustainable solutions also in our own operations. We are a model company when it comes to mobile and flexible work.
Elisa is building the information society and making substantial investments in Finland. Our annual investments amount to some EUR 200 million. We are a technology pioneer. The world’s first GSM call took place in Elisa’s network in 1991, and we were the first in the world to put UMTS 900 technology into commercial use in 2007. Elisa pays a substantial amount of tax that supports people’s well-being. Taxes collected and paid by Elisa amount to some EUR 250 million annually.
