BackElisa introduces a solution for ensuring the product safety of frozen food
Press release, 12 November 2009
Elisa has developed a new application for monitoring the temperature of frozen food during transport, intermediate storage and final storage. The new method improves control and ensures product quality.
For retail trade, the major advantages of the service include ensuring the quality of frozen food, less manual work, and improved safety.
- The service ensures that the products will definitely keep their quality all the way to the customer. In retail trade, an investment in proper conditions monitoring will already pay itself back during the first equipment failure. The service also meets the authority approval for self-control measuring systems saving data into memory, says Jouni Petrow, Elisa's business manager responsible for the development of the service.
The Elisa Kenttätieto service's application, tailored for retail trade, compiles temperature data from various inspection points onto Elisa's server via wireless sensors. The real-time data can be viewed at any time and place using a Web browser, and it can automatically be reported to other systems. The method replaces traditional manual entering, decreases the probability of errors and makes for faster data compilation, processing and reporting. The service also enables fast, real-time reactions to surprising situations. For example, if the freezer equipment breaks down at night, an alarm is immediately sent via text message.
Elisa is the first service provider in Finland enabling wireless real-time data compilation from various inspection points as a fully monthly-priced service.
- This means that customers need not invest in different systems and equipment. As a result of the wireless function, installation is convenient and fast, says Petrow.
The development of the new application of the Elisa Kenttätieto service is based on the European Commission decree 37/2005 concerning the monitoring of frozen food during transport, intermediate storage and final storage, as well as the transition period for temperature measuring devices, which will expire on 31 December 2009. The devices in the service have been accepted by the Finnish Food Safety Authority (Evira) and they meet EU requirements.
