Press release 25 August 2008
Leuven, Belgium – August 25, 2008 – Option N.V. (EURONEXT Brussels: OPTI; OTC: OPNVY), the wireless technology company, today announced that it has started commercial shipments of the first data card based on Qualcomm’s state-of-the-art 7225 chipset.
The first shipments of the E3730 have been delivered to Elisa, the Vodafone partner network that was the world’s first 900 MHz HSDPA operator. With the E3730, Elisa Finland will become the first operator able to offer 900 MHz HSUPA commercially. Other operators within the Vodafone Group are currently evaluating the new device. The E3730 extends Option’s long-standing relationships with both Vodafone Group and Elisa.
Exclusively to the Vodafone Group, the E3730 Express data card takes mobile broadband performance to new heights. Initially offering upload speeds of up to 2Mbps, the E3730 can be updated by the user to achieve 5.76 Mbps in the uplink once an operator completes the associated network update. On the downlink, the E3730 will deliver speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps.
The Qualcomm 7225 is unique in being able to support high speeds in downlink and uplink concurrently. The E3730 adds 3G HSPA in the 900 MHz frequency band to the more common 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz 3G bands. Many GSM operators, especially in Europe, are seeking to migrate their 900 MHz spectrum to 3G and HSPA in order to extend the availability of high performance mobile broadband offerings in rural areas.
The E3730 also packs quad-band EDGE into the slim and stylish Express Card form factor ensuring international business travelers can remain connected wherever they go.
