BackPress release: Traffic returned to normal in Elisa's GSM network
Press release 14 May 2008, updated at 8pm
Mobile telephone traffic returned to normal in Elisa’s GSM network. A nationwide interruption begun 14 May 2008 at 10.04am and blocked at first approximately 10 - 30 percent of incoming calls and text messages to mobile phones in the GSM-network.
The interruption was caused by unpredicted overload in the GSM-network data transfer traffic that occurred after overnight alteration work and disturbed GSM-traffic. This kind of interruption has never occurred in Elisa’s network.
The interruption affected Elisa, Saunalahti or Kolumbus mobile phone subscribers. Voice messages are stored in voice mails. Blocked SMS-messages are stored in Elisa’s service from where they will be resend to mobile phones. Elisa will continue to monitor closely it’s network.
Emergency calls were not affected by the interruption and Elisa’s 3G-network operated normally.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this exceptionally large interruption to mobile phone traffic.
